The FORCE wasn't with our Jedhi, back he is with us after his adopter started to travel too much with her job!  So now, let us all unite to use The FORCE to get him a permanent home this time!!  This big, gorgeous boy is a perfect housedog -- knows all his commands, doesn't get up on furniture, is mellow and calm with a great sense of humor and playfulness added in!! Jenn & Kathy were ready to adopt him but then he found a home so they took in Nique and they feel terrible that Jedhi is back sitting in a kennel again!! Jedhi is about 5 now & is a definite favorite of ours so if you have an adult home with no other pets, then consider this Jedhi Knight for your home!! ELLA

Ella found herself in a kill shelter after she was picked up at a NJ Elementary School playground. A teacher noticed one of the  children trying to feed Ella part of his lunch and called animal control. Ella did not fuss -- she happily jumped in the truck for a  ride to the shelter. Ella is estimated to be about 7 years old, she  is spayed and up to date on her shots, HW negative and fecal clear.   From what we can see, Ella has had a hard life. A lack of nutrition and being constantly bred has made her look older than what she is. Ella has lost most of her ear tips due to heavy fly strike, however, she remains loving and sweet. This is a very big boned girl who is 90 pounds and very thin. She could use at least 15 to 20 pounds as she is very heavy boned and a large frame. Ella will be going to our vets to be examined and once that is done we will update all of Ella's new info. Ella loves everyone she meets -- she sits, gives paw, and listens very well. Adopting an older pet has so many benefits! They are calm, mild, and you don't have to worry about things like housebreaking, or go through the potty training thing. BELLE

I REALLY need your love!!!!!

Meet our lovely Belle, the most genteel lady you will ever meet!  Like a Belle of the Ole' South, our Belle is dignified, courteous and sweet.  We can picture her on a veranda of some gorgeous southern Mansion but alas, she ended up in a shelter in Phila, scared to death, curled up in a ball in the corner, terrified of the raucous noise around her, wondering what she did to deserve this!  Belle is approx 6 yrs young, with a nice spring to her walk and a loving sweet expression on her face; this is a well-bred dog with great character and intelligence.  We believe her to be Hoshi's mother, as they came in at the same time and have the same white marking on the back of their red necks.  Belle seems to do well with nice male dogs, is well-behaved around older kids and while we haven't yet seen her with children, we feel she deserves the attention for herself instead of having to share it with toddlers!  Belle is healthy, will be spayed before leaving, is hw/Lyme negative and will be a wonderful loving companion for the right lucky home! TOSHI

I am too young to be here!!!!!

Toshi is NOT an Akita even though we were assured he was mostly, if not all, Akita.  He is a JINDO, a Korean breed of dog with a very different nature than an Akita. Toshi was very sick at the shelter and near death so we had to step in and so here he is -- now healthy and ready for a home who understands the breed.

Little Toshi is approx 4-5 months of age, already neutered, up to date on shots, crate trained and learning to be a good boy on a leash.  He is a gorgeous red with an inquisitive nature but he is very dog aggressive, and he absolutely CANNOT be placed in a home with other pets or with children under the age of 10.

Keigo loves to kiss, his tail never stops wagging and he loves to run in the yard playing ball with our volunteers! Yoshi is simply gorgeous; a stunning female Akita who is a very young 5 yrs old. Raised in the same loving household as our Max (see his write up), Yoshi has been lovingly treated and it shows -- she is a gentle, sweet girl with a lovely face and a beautiful dark glowing coat. When Yoshi walked through my kennel door a year ago to meet the "boys" we had, I remember thinking she was one of the most gorgeous girls I had ever met. She still is but now she needs to lose a few pounds (don't we all, really?) and she will make a fabulous companion for a nice couple seeking a sweet and mellow female. Yoshi is healthy, outgoing and well-behaved, completely housebroken, loves to ride in a car or take long walks.  She is calm around other dogs but has not lived with cats, so should not go to a home with them. CASSIDY

Can you say SWEET! Well our little Cassidy is that and so much more! Cassidy is a petite, loving, young 5 year old female who has not had the best life -- but we are determined she WILL in the future!  Cassidy first came to ARWNY after being found on the side of the road in Ohio, shot and left for dead. She spent time rehabbing with an Akita breeder friend of ARWNY's and was professionally temperament tested then along with our own experienced assessment, and also vet input was sought by the several vets who treated her for her injuries. She went to what we thought would be her permanent home as an only pet almost 3 years ago.  But her adopters decided to get another dog -- and when the aggression issues started, its poor Cassidy that lost her home after 3 years as a loyal devoted pet!  We are happy to have her back, however, and now that we have gotten her on the thyroid meds she needed and changed her food, she is good to go! Our vets have also given a thumbs up on her fabulous temperament as has another trainer we use often who does CGC testing as well. Cassidy has loved everyone she has met here (male and female, young and old) -- Jo's whole family including Matt whom she really loved, my son Jim and daughter Jenn, all our volunteers! She can't live with another pet but in a home as your only pet, you will be rewarded with more love and devotion than you can imagine. Yes, even after all she's been through, Cassidy is a people-loving Akita. She deserves a nice home with a yard she can romp in, a rural setting to take walks in, and a calm, loving household who will give her the loyalty she has not had in her life. Cassidy is housebroken, knows all her basic obedience commands, is crate trained and rides well in the car, and well she's just the perfect little, sweet girl!  Please consider giving Cassidy another chance to learn humans really can be loyal and loving -- you won't be sorry! Jade is a pretty little gal who needs some fattening up - lucky her, wish I could say the same!  She was a stray in York, PA so Chuck & Val are giving her some much needed love and attention up at their kennel, along with great food, to turn her into the beauty we know she can become!  Jade is probably between 1 and 2 yrs of age, and meets people just fine.  She would probably benefit from living with a nice male dog but NO cats and no small kids as we have no idea of what she's like with them at this point.  She walks nicely on a leash now, and has learned to sit and give 'PAW' for her cookies like a nice girl! Jade is a petite little angel and probably always will be, so if a nice small loving female is what you'd like to have in your home, this may be the girl for you!! Jade is up-to-date on vaccines and also HW/lymes/erhlichia tested and negative. She is also fecal tested. OHHH scratch that spot and I will smile every time!!!

What a big handsome boy our Meeko is!! Standing tall at around 30" and easily weighing in at about 140lbs (yes, he could lose a few of those pounds too) Meeko lost his home when he wasn't crazy about the kids that moved into his household.  An adult home is what this gentle giant needs, as he's not aggressive with children but nervous about them so calm loving adults-only home would work best for him. Meeko is a very affectionate dog once he knows you, and shows his playful fun side when he feels safe with those around him. Our volunteers have fallen in love with him and he's been easy to walk and play with in the yard here.  Meeko did nothing to warrant losing his home and he deserves to live out his life being loved by someone who will earn his trust and devotion.  Please open your heart to this big boy, he will be a fabulous companion! This large, powerful boy is a gorgeous "real" Akita so was named Thor for the Greek God he acts like! Thor has a calm, confident demeanor and is the perfect housedog for an adult household who understands this breed. This approx. 5-6 year old was found as a stray in NY so we have no history on Thor other than knowing he needs to be given time to adjust to trust his new home but once he trusts you a more devoted loving Akita you won't find. Thor cannot go to a household with children or other pets, but would be the perfect boy for a couple or single person who wants the intelligence & confidence this breed is known for. Our big boy Tansei is one big mush of an Akita! Don't let his size and his dark face fool you as Tansei is one big softee with a love for people! Tansei has found himself in rescue> after being left by his former owner who "had no time" for Tansei. ARWNY was contacted by the shelter in hopes we could help this exceptional Akita find his way into a new home. The best home for him would be one with someone home most of the time or with a retired couple so he can adjust easily. Tansei is good with children of all ages however due to his size we ask that children be over age 10 and know how to be respectful with this breed. Tansei is a very well mannered Akita, knows his basic commands, walks like a charm on a leash and is housebroken. There isn't anyone this Akita does not like, however we ask that Tansei be the only pet in the home at this time. Tansei is stunning in appearance and would make a wonderful companion to the right family or home. I love to play!!!!

Shiro has not had much of a life before being saved by ARWNY. This big white boy is only approx 2 yrs of age and already has had an embedded rope removed from his neck, been starved and neglected by the humans he trusted from puppyhood and is heartworm positive so will be treated and cleared before being adopted.  Yet he has met all of us just fine and holds no resentment against humans, and with some kind and gentle training, will make a wonderful pet for the right home!  This boy is all Akita -- extremely intelligent, playful and loving once he trusts that you will be good to him.  He has never lived in a house, but keeps his run clean inside and likes knowing he has a warm spot to sleep, so we know he will make a fine housedog with some training.  He does know "sit" and will give us his paw for a treat but he will need some basic obedience work to walk better on a leash.  This is not a cupcake male Akita - he's dominant, confident and smart as can be.  So we'd like an experienced owner for him that has no children or other pets, one that will take time to allow Shiro to feel safe and comfortable with them before expecting anything from him.  We all love him, he's proven to have a sense of humor and loves to play.  If a 'real' Akita is what you are looking for, Shiro may be the one for you! Please fill out our online adoption application. Adoption contract required, click here.

I am happy -- oh so happy!!!!!

Oshii is fabulous, a young approx 1.5 yr old gal with sparkling white teeth, a gorgeous golden brindle coat and the prettiest face!  Oshii loves everyone, including kids, and is a sweetheart!  She walks well on a leash, knows how to sit for a cookie and has no food aggression issues or aggression issues with any person!  She might do well with a non-aggressive male but we'll pursue a home with no other dog so she can have all the attention for herself now!  This pretty girl will make a great pet, as she's well-behaved,
