JAYDORA
Can you love me??

Video

Jaydora is a 1.5 year old spayed female Akita who was left in a crowded city kill shelter after her owners turned her in because they could no longer afford her. Jaydora was traumatized, and bewilder as to why she was left by the people she dearly loved. Days went by and Jaydora waited, her time at the shelter had become urgent. During this time a little girl happened to be visiting the shelter with her teacher and saw Jaydora. This young child went home that evening and made a special valentines day card to put on Jaydora's kennel, she was worried that Jaydora would not get a home and wanted to help. Her teacher delivered the home made Valentines day card with care and placed it on her kennel run. When ARWNY was told about the little girl and her home made card a trip to the shelter was indeed needed. Upon arrival our volunteer met a sweet, small, very young female Akita, who needed out of the shelter quickly as her time was up. Well, the little girl's card worked it magic on ARWNY's hearts and despite having no room, we some how managed a miracle for Jaydora and she was saved. And yes we found that little girl, and told her Jaydora will get to see many more Valentine's Days all because she cared. We are asking Jaydora not go to a home with kitties or other dogs -- she wants to give all her love to you alone!! Jaydora did live with children in her past home over the age of 8 years. Children must know how to respect the Akita breed if considering this Akita for adoption. Jaydora is spayed, microchipped, heart worm negative, and current on her shots. If you interested in meeting Jaydora, please fill out our on line adoption application. Adoption contract required, click here.

SHEENA
Can you love this face??

Sheena is a fawn and white spayed female Akita who is 8 1/2 years young! Her family lost their home to foreclosure and dropped Sheena off at the local dog pound. The staff at the pound did their best to find her a new home, however, the woman who adopted her did not follow any of the staff's instructions and consequently set Sheena up for failure. She was returned the next day. Despite all this upheaval in her life, Sheena is a true optimist. She greets each and every person as though they were her new best friend, with loads of kisses and tail wags. She is impeccably clean and neat and obviously well housebroken. Although she has never had any formal training, she is very willing to please and we are sure that given the opportunity, she would be a "fast study".

Unfortunately, while running in the exercise area at the pound, Sheena injured her ACL. She has been seen by a vet, who diagnosed her injury as a partial tear and has been on rest and an anti-inflammatory supplement. She is currently at a boarding kennel in CT and is being sponsored by Squakheag Akita Club, who are overseeing her care. Her leg continues to improve and her happy spirit never falters!

Sheena is healthy, up to date on shots, spayed, HW negative, and micro chipped. If you're interested in meeting Sheena, please fill out our online adoption form. Adoption contract required, click here.

Upon arrival Carla met a sweet, small, very young female Akita, who needed out of the shelter quickly as her time was up. Well, the little girl's card worked it magic on ARWNY's hearts and despite having no room, we some how managed a miracle for Jaydora and she was saved. So you want happy, fun, and well behaved all in one package? Well we have it right here in our big boy Bear. Hard to believe at one time 3 year old Bear survived one of the largest hoarding situations in the U.S. ever. Bear's strength and true Akita spirit prevailed as many of the other dogs around him perished. Our Bear has shown that despite all he has lived through the Akita can survive even when the odds were piled up against him. Bear has shown his gratitude to ARWNY in almost every thing he does, from his silly happy dance, to him playing "catch me if you can." He speaks words of thanks in all he shows us daily. What we have learned about Bear is he housebroken, crate trained, walks well on leash, is quiet, non destructive, and well mannered in the home. Bear would appreciate being the center of your universe, and after sharing a condemned old barn with over 340 other dogs, he feels he would appreciate a little one on one time with his new family. Please no cats for Bear and children should be 10 and up and know and respect the Akita breed. Bear has been fully vet checked, heartworm tested -negative, up to date on shots, microchipped, and neutered. If interested in Bear, please fill out our online application. VENUS
Love to all!!

Video

This sweet 2-3 yr old gorgeous female Akita came to us at Valentine's Day so what better name than Venus -- since we all loved her immediately!!! Venus comes to ARWNY as a stray from an upstate NY shelter where they performed entropian surgery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropion) for her along w/her spay so she is now healthy & looks wonderful. While at the shelter Venus was loved by the staff; they said Venus has never met a person she did not love and we found that to be so true!  This sweet girl is so very willing to please -- she has a lot of energy and would do well in a home where she will be walked daily, played with in a fenced in yard, taken on hikes, learn obedience work, even teach her to do some doggie dancing!! Our Venus is looking for a loving responsible home where she can thrive as a single pet, she must go to a single-pet-only home with kids over the age of 10 or young adults that want a super sweet Akita to love. Venus has been spayed, brought up to date on her shots, micro-chipped, and is heartworm & lymes negative. If you are interested in meeting our "goddess of love," wait no more! She is here now and she just needs you to fill out our online adoption application. What are you waiting for? Adoption contract required, click here.

MAI TAI
My eyes show the wisdom in my soul!!

If Mai-Tai could talk, boy would she have a tale to tell. You see Mai-Tai came into rescue with 9 other Akitas from a horrible situation in Long Island, NY. Mai-Tai was very under weight, filthy and had been living out doors at the end of a chain. Despite what this 2 year old beautiful female Akita has lived through, she remains friendly, happy and grateful for the simplest of things. Mai-Tai has come quite a long way. She has mastered her leash manners, sits for her cookies, and will give you "paw' when asked. Mai-Tai ignores other dogs, and it is possible she can live with the right male dog so a meet & greet would need to be set up. We are asking children be over 12 years old as Mai-Tai is a very big girl, once she puts on some more weight she could be to exuberant for a young child. Children should know how to respect the Akita breed if applying to adopt Mai-Tai. Please no kitties for Mai-Tai. Mai Tai has been spayed and as with all of our Akitas, she is fully vetted at time of adoption. If your interested in this beautiful female Akita who is eager to please and happy to love, fill out our online adoption application for Mai-Tai.  Adoption contract required, click here.

MATHEO

I can really be silly and make you laugh!!

Video

Matheo is a two-year-old large & loyal male Akita who was dumped at a NYC shelter by his heartless owner. All Matheo wanted to do was go home once at the shelter and with good reason, the chances of a large male Akita making it out of a full city pound is slim to none. ARWNY was called in to help Matheo at the 11th hour and we are glad we pulled out all of the stops for this Akita. In the matter of weeks, loyal Matheo found the courage to move on past being dumped and ARWNY started to look for a new home for Matheo, which was found! Off Matheo went to live a happy full life so we hoped! But sadly Matheo's plans did not work out this way. Matheo was returned to us a year later due to no fault of his own when his owner had to take in a family member who was not a dog person. Once again, loyal Matheo is now looking for a new home. Could that home be yours? Matheo will need an experienced Akita owner. This is a big boy, who knows some basic commands, is house broken, non destructive, quiet, and mannerly. Matheo is a very loyal and calm boy who loves to roll on his back in between doing donuts in the yard and acting silly. Matheo is tolerant of other female dogs but has never lived with one so it best he be an only pet. Please no cats or small children for Matheo as due to his size and strength he could easily knock over small children. All this Akita wants is a forever home where he can be loved and give his undying loyalty to his family. Is that family yours? Matheo is neutered and as with all of our Akitas, he is fully vetted and ready to go to his new home. If you are interested in Matheo, please fill out an ARWNY online adoption application.  Adoption contract required, click here.

GEORGIA
How could they do this to us??

Video

What a peach of a gal our Georgia is! Georgia is a warm, friendly, and loving 5 year old spayed female Akita that has come into rescue after her breeder dumped her and her kennel mates in a rural NY shelter because they were moving. Despite Georgia living and being bred constantly in an outdoor kennel for the last 5 years this Akita is still willing and wanting to give and please her humans. Georgia has already mastered housebreaking, leash walking, and some basic commands. It is possible Georgia can live with another male dog so a meet and greet would need to be set up. Please no kitties for Georgia, and children should be 12 years of age and respect the Akita breed. If you are interested in this peach of an Akita, please fill out an online ARWNY application quick!Adoption contract required, click here.
