KODA
I'm so handsome, someone MUST be wanting me in their family!!

Koda is a very large, stunning 5 year old neutered male Akita who is looking for a family to love and bond to as he's a very bonding boy. Koda was given up by his original owners in Maine when a new baby was due, because "if he dislikes cats, he won't be safe with a baby." Never knew that disliking cats led to disliking babies, but a wonderful kind man in MA just couldn't stand to see Koda dumped in a shelter so he saved him & turned him over to us here at ARWNY! Koda knows his basic commands, is leash trained, crate trained, house broken and just a complete sweet heart. We are looking for a home that has Akita experience and where Koda will be able to live as a only pet. We ask that any children in the home be over the age of 14 and know how to treat and respect the Akita breed. Koda is heart worm negative and has been kept on preventatives, up to date on shots and ready to be your best friend. If you are interested in this fabulous Akita, please fill out our online adoption contract quickly -- this boy will not be around long!  Adoption contract required, click here.

DIABLO
YUP I am sweet as sweet can be!!

Meet our stunning young neutered male Akita Diablo. This is one sweet smiley-faced boy who was found as a stray. At only 10 months old this Akita was facing death in a shelter.  ARWNY just could not allow this to happen and moved into action swiftly to save this sweet male's life and boy was he worth every effort. This is a stunning large young male who loves everyone he meets. He actually thinks he is a lap dog! Diablo walks well on leash, is crate trained and knows some basic commands. This Akita is still very young so ARWNY feels it best he go to an Akita experienced home where they will continue with Diablo's obedience training. Diablo is very eager to please and willing to learn; he will make a wonderful addition to an active loving home where he will be the only pet. Please no cats for Diablo and children should be 12 or older and know how to respect the Akita breed. Diablo is micro-chipped and current on all vaccines. He did test positive for light heart worm and will be treated while in rescue. This is a gorgeous boy who will be a very large adult Akita with a sweet temperament and he will not be in rescue long with this super personality & good looks. If you're interested in meeting Diablo please fill out our online adoption form.  Adoption contract required, click here.

MAXIE
My eyes show the wisdom in my soul!!

Our Maxie comes to us with a story we have heard many times over. Maxie lived in her home for 9 years, then one day her family decided they just no longer wanted her and took her to a kill shelter; dropped her off and never looked back.  Maxie struggled on her leash to get to her owners who simply no longer wanted her. Shortly afterwards Maxie became very depressed in the shelter and started to realize her fate and that is when ARWNY was called to help a senior Akita in need. Maxie has since come around; she is playful and so happy for just simple things such as a walk and her food. Maxie can be aloof at first but does warm up quickly. Her tipped ear makes her still look like a puppy, and please do not let her age fool you -- Maxie gets around very well and has many more years of love to give. Maxie is quiet, non-destructive, leash trained, house broken and minds her manners well. This Akita can go to a quiet home where she will be a only pet so that she can soak up all of the love you can give her. Children should be 14 and over and know how to respect the Akita breed. This Akita is spayed, current on her rabies, heart worm tested-negative, and chipped. If you are interested in Maxie please fill out our online application because your new best friend is waiting! LOVEY
How could they do this to us??

UPDATE: Sadly Winter died in his sleep while at the foster home with the Dimon family. They had pampered him the night before as always but he left them broken hearted. He also left poor Lovey very upset. Shame on the people who abandoned them both -- SHAME ON YOU!

This gorgeous pair of older Akitas was referred to us when they were found to be living huddled together on the frozen ground with no cover from the harsh winter in New England. Their owner fell on hard times so left them in a neighbor's pen where they had no dog house, no roof, nothing but frozen mud covering the ground around them; being cleaned up once a week & getting no vet care. Poor Winter suffers from arthritis in his hips so had trouble getting around, and Lovey never left his side, caring for her beloved companion, trying to shield him from the cold as best she could. With the help of our friend Kim Holmes, Winter & Lovey are now safe and warm, vetted after not seeing the inside of a vet's office since 2001, and are safe now under ARWNY's care. At one time both dogs were house dogs, and are easy keepers; they so deserve a home to live out their days now. Lovey is 9.5 yrs, Winter is 11.5 yrs, both have love to give and would be happy to be in a home again. Kim says their personalities are wonderful and both dogs are bright, alert and sweet with adults. If you have no small kids and no other pets, please consider opening your home to this lovely pair of Akitas whose sad state was human error, no fault of their own! We prefer to keep them together as Winter will not survive without his Lovey. MARA
Yes I am cute as a bug!!

This gorgeous brindle female came to us via a puppymill in PA, who was trying to lower their numbers by dumping their Akitas in a local shelter. One of our volunteers got there just in the nick of time, as Mara's other 2 companions had already been euthanized! Mara is a lovely girl with a super sweet personality with people. She is a compact smaller female, who has a very lovely brindle coat and a very pretty face. Mara would do well with the right male dog if properly introduced and she crates well, walks well now on a leash, and is social with all people she meets. Mara would not work in a home with smaller dogs or cats, and has never been around small children, so will only be adopted to a home with kids over 12 or no kids at all. Mara is approx 4-5 yrs of age, energetic and outgoing; she will make someone a very loving, sweet family member -- how about considering Mara for your household! Mara is healthy, spayed, HW & Lyme negative, up to date on shots. MERLIN
I will make you laugh!!

Merlin is one big, happy, gorgeous male Akita. Trust me, pictures do NOT do this boy justice -- he is gorgeous in every sense of the word!  On top of that, he has a winning personality, with a goofy sense of humor and a curiosity about the world that is second to none -- he could be a cat with all this curiosity!  He is just making up for lost time, having been left outside & used at stud by some BYB during his short years.  Merlin is approx 4 yrs of age, and is like a big ole' bull in a china shop -- he has no clue he is this big nor does he act like a big tough Akita but instead, like a curious little 8 week old puppy in a 100+ lb body.  He needs to go to a home with no small children under 12 due to his size & strength, but would do well possibly with a sweet female dog to live with, NO other critters as he is too reactive to small critters, and a family that has Akita knowledge.  He has learned a lot since living with Joann & her family and they cannot say enough good things about him.  This Akita has quality breeding behind him and we wish we could find out where he came from originally; but suffice to say that he will make a wonderfully loving, playful family member if you decide to open your heart and home to him!!  Merlin is neutered, up to date on shots, HW & Lyme negative, fecal clear and micro-chipped.  If you are interested in adopting him, please go to our website and fill out our online application for adoption here. OKAMI

Can you love me??

Meet our Okami Amaterasu a/k/a "Oki"... Oki's name in Japanese means " The Great Wolf" however don't let a name fool you this fellow is all Akita. Oki is loyal, devoted to family and willing to give all of himself to see his family is never in harm's way. Oki comes to us with a bit of a sad story to tell. Oki was left homeless due to a family fire. The family lost everything and now they lost their beloved Akita too. ARWNY could not let this family member be taken to a local kill shelter and stepped up to help. How could we not? Oki is a 4 year old very healthy large 110 pound athletic neutered male Akita, who is heart worm negative and kept on preventive, up to date on all of his shots and fecal negative. Oki is well behaved in the home, quiet, non-destructive, house broken and is leash trained. Oki  will be looking for a family that has Akita experience and is able to give him the loving home this boy so badly misses. Oki will be tested with female dogs to see how he does, however my feeling is he could possibly live with the right female as Oki does not show much interest in the other dogs that are here at this time. Oki should not go to a home with cats or small children. He is way to big for a small child and will knock a child down without intention, so we are asking children be of age 12 and up. Oki also loves the truck and going for rides, this seems to be one of his favorite things to do besides just hanging out being your buddy. If you're interested in giving Oki a place to call home please fill out our on line application. If you can not give Oki a home but still would like to help please consider being a sponsor for one of our orphaned Akitas. Oki is neutered, up to date on shots, and is ready to go to a new home today. If you would like to consider Oki for your home, please fill out our online application. COOPER
I miss my family!!!!!

Meet Cooper!! Don't let looks deceive you -- Cooper is actually 1/2 Akita, as his purebred Akita Mom gave birth to his litter at our volunteer Carla's home so we know all about him from day one! See that cute baby picture of Cooper?  Well now he's a tall, sturdy, well-built fellow with down ears but a great head and strong bone, a super glossy black coat & some nice white markings! Cooper was adopted to a loving home who raised him well; but when a family health issue happened, Cooper came back to ARWNY, not due to any fault of his. His adoptive family was heartsick to let him go, but their love shows in his joyful nature & his good training! Cooper is crate trained, very socialized with other dogs (he lived with a female dog), he knows all his basic commands, rides well in the car and walks great with a "halti" collar/leash. Cooper is shy upon first meeting new people, then warms up quickly; but has NO aggression issues. However, he has NEVER been around children, so we are only adopting him to a home with kids over 12 or no kids at all and kitties are a no-no for Cooper. Cooper would make a fun hiking and walking companion, as he has a lot of energy and would love the excitement of walking in the woods or hiking on a trail with his new parents! So won't you consider this big lab-looking-Akita mix for your next companion? He is already neutered, up to date on shots, HW & Lyme free. If you are interested, please fill out our online application.  Adoption contract required, click here.

SACHI
Can you maybe give me a home of my own??

Sachi is a sweet little 3 yr old female Akita taken as part of a cruelty situation from her breeder. This little girl hasn't been shown much of the world, but her natural curiosity makes up for her little bit of shyness and she warms up to people and new situations quickly! She has never been exposed to kids or cats, so we are saying no to those in a new home. She gets along well with other dogs, so the right nice male would do well with this little munchkin! Sachi rides well in a car, crates well, and walks gently on a leash even though she hasn't had much experience with being walked. Sachi is on the small side but has a lush gorgeous brindle coat with an intelligent sweet face and perky little ears! She is eager to please and will do well with the right calm patient family!! Sachi needs some vetting before she can be placed, so please check back for more updates about her! ROMULUS
AGAIN --I REALLY need your love!!!!!

Romulus is brother to Zeus, listed above.  Like his brother, this is one gorgeous male, with a great head, heavy bone and lush coat.  Romulus is a bit more reserved than Zeus, but would make a wonderful pet for the right adults-only no-other-pets home also.  He crates well, walks wonderfully on a leash, knows basic commands.  He would also do best in a quiet home with low-activity; he bonds very quickly and is perfectly wonderful in the house, as if he lived in one his whole life!  Romulus is taller and heavier than Zeus, but has that same wonderful smile for those he loves and plays with his squeaky toys like a puppy despite being about 8 yrs of age!!  He also has many wonderful years ahead of him and deserves to live them out in peace with the right Akita-knowledgeable person/couple so won't you please consider him for your next Akita?  He is healthy on thyroid meds, HW/Lyme negative, up to date on shots.  If you are interested, please fill out our online application.  Adoption contract required, click here.

MATHEO
I can really be silly and make you laugh!!

Matheo is a very large, wonderful boy who was dumped into the NYC shelter system by an obviously uncaring owner, considering his skin issues & his weight issues. Matheo was covered in sores, with a raw neck wound and shoulder wounds that appear to have been from being kept in a wet basement chained up his whole short life. Matheo is only about a year old but is already a very large handsome boy. Now that he's in ARWNY's care, his skin issues are already clearing up and he is a big sweetie pie! Shy at first with new people, Matheo warms up almost immediately when given the time to bond with you, true to the Akita breed. He is super clean in his kennel run, walks well on a leash, and is learning his commands while living at Chez Dimon!! His recent bath showed his silly side, resulting in him going belly up to everyone. Matheo needs a loving, Akita-experienced home with no small kids (he's way too big!), a home that is calm, loving and will give him the life he has never had. He would do well with a sweet female also when given time to learn to bond with her also. He is gaining much needed weight now and will be ready for adoption soon. If you'd like to come meet and bond with Matheo, let us know quickly as this handsome boy won't be around very long!  Please fill out our online adoption application. LANI
I really am a good girl!!

Welcome to the world of LANI!! Its a wonderful world too, full of fun and happiness! Lani never wanted to live with other pets but her original owners didn't understand when she tried to tell them that for the 8 months of her life there. They just kept insisting she tolerate the little female dog and kitty in her home that Lani wanted nothing to do with. Lani ended up coming to rescue after being dumped in a local PA shelter after two unfortunate incidents ended up tragically for the other pets. But Lani doesn't have an ounce of aggression in her with humans and has been a sweetheart for ARWNY. She is very intelligent, very energetic, has all her housemanners and walks well on a leash. She cannot live with other pets or toddlers as she has no experience with kids that young, and needs to go to a home that will exercise her, work on her training and that understands the breed. She crated well for ARWNY on the long ride from the shelter, and while her owners admitted to not doing any training with her, is already learning her basic commands well. She's very pretty with a silver underlay to that dark coat of hers and has a very sweet expressive face. Lani deserves a chance to be understood and loved so if you are that right forever home, please come meet our little 8 month old girl! HERO
I am ready for a new loving home!!

Poor Hero feels like anything but a hero since loosing his owner to cancer & landing in rescue! But ARWNY will put that smile back on his handsome face by finding him a wonderful forever home! Hero is a one year old male that will be neutered, is up to date on shots & healthy. He's been a housedog all his life, lived with kids over 10, and so far seems to like the female dogs he's met so perhaps he could live with a nice gal! Hero is bewildered by all that's happened to him in such a short time, so we will get to know him better as we spend more time with him. He is a wooly-coated Akita and is used to a lot of love & attention, so please when you are ready for a new Akita, consider Hero for your home so he feels special once again! Check back for more updates on this special boy! If you are interested in Hero, please fill out our online adoption application. But this jewel won't be in rescue too long! Diamond is approx 2 yrs of age, is a compact smaller girl with a lovely red coat and a sweet expression on her face. Diamond loves everyone, has lived with kids, seems sweet with male dogs, and has been a housedog so knows her manners well! Diamond crates well, walks great on a leash, knows her basic commands, and is clean & neat in her kennel run. Diamond didn't deserve to lose her home, she did nothing wrong but now she can have a chance at a FOREVER home. Will you be Diamond's forever home now?She is spayed, up to date on shots, HW & Lyme negative, and very healthy. MIZZY
I am ready for a new loving home!!

Meet our long-coated Mizzy!! Where is her long coat, you say? Well it had to be shaved off due to the neglect of her original owner -- Mizzy's rescue was a concentrated effort to get her from the foreclosed house she was left behind in -- thank you to Rottie Rescue & friends that helped save Mizzy from her fate. Mizzy will grow this gorgeous coat back and be her lovely self again quickly! Mizzy was bought from a show kennel and has a great champion background -- it shows when you see her in person, she's just gorgeous! Sadly however, her breeder never returned calls asking for help with Mizzy so ARWNY has decided to find her a great forever home!! Pictures of her now do her no justice due to the shaving but her lush coat will be black and white pinto when it comes back in. Mizzy lived with a male Akita, older kids, and was a housedog so knows her house manners and all her basic commands. Mizzy is extremely affectionate and has the cutest face with a big smile all the time. Mizzy's life hasn't been the best but she doesn't have any ill feelings about humans. She is approx 5 yrs old and will be a lovely housepet for some lucky family with her super lovely personality!! If you are interested in Mizzy, please fill out our online adoption application. PIXIE
You can't keep me down!!

Pixie is a wonderful female purebred Akita that made her way into rescue after being stabbed and shot twice with a gun! We even had one bullet removed! This poor adult girl has been through so much recently, but her personality and temperament is amazingly fantastic! She is gentle, mild tempered, and she adores meeting everyone here. She gives gentle kisses and is a DREAM to walk on a leash. Pixie was apparently the neighborhood stray and we have no idea why someone would want to hurt her. Pixie seems to ignore other dogs her size. Pixie is crate trained and would love a home were she would feel safe after all she has been through. Pixie is spayed, microchipped, heart worm/lymes tested (Negative), and fecal clear.
