Female Purebred Akita around 6 years old. Well trained. She is smart and learns quickly.  Very loyal, loving and obedient to her family. Loves to play fetch and go for car rides. Seeks a mature quiet house with a fenced yard, no other pets.  Although she does not like other pets, she is easily controlled when walking with her master even through a room full of dogs.  She does not lunge at other dogs or in any way appear aggressive until another dog is right up to her.  She does seem to get along with other large male dogs that ignore her.  She prefers a home that does not have a lot of strange faces constantly coming and going.  She is fine with strangers in her home as long as her master introduces them to her first and lets her know it is ok for them to be there.  She is great with strangers when brought anywhere else and actually loves the attention she gets.  She gets a LOT OF ATTENTION from strangers because she is such a beautiful Akita. Spayed and up to date on all shots. Preference given to those who have experience with dominant breeds, particularly Akitas.   She would like someone who has plenty of time to spend with her as she loves to have people pay attention to her.  However, she is not needy.  She is absolutely beautiful!

CORA

Available :: 8-10 year old spayed female akita

I am attaching photos of a dog we have had now for 2 years and a few months.  She is the dam of a litter of puppies (mixed) that all found homes, but we have just not been able to find anyone interested in adopting poor Cora. She was not a young dog when she arrived.  She was in terrible shape when the shelter picked her up as a stray and she whelped in the shelter.  As you can see, she has gained back any weight she lost during her ‘difficult’ period.  We guesstimate her age now between 8 and 10 years of age.  Washingtonian’s general outlook on life is ‘younger is better’.  So Cora continuously is overlooked as ‘too old’.  She is not getting any younger.  She has been in a kennel for the past year after her foster went back to school in addition to working full time. I have to admit, Cora was not very happy being crated to begin with, but became increasingly unhappy with longer hours. She was fine in the house in the finished basement when she was out while the family watched t.v. and played games.

She can not live with any other pets. She just doesn’t do them. She does, however, ADORE people!  Any!  All!  Any age. Although we would feel more comfortable looking at homes with older children for obvious reasons (namely, nobody leaves a door or gate open accidentally). She is spayed, microchipped and utd on vax, negative for HW, etc.

She has some blue spots on her tongue which may indicate a little Chow in her background. She reminds me Red Cadillac, but that’s my personal opinion.  We would just like to see her get into a forever home to lavish and be lavished love and attention for the remainder of her life.
